It has been brought to my attention that the age old theory that"chows are nasty and if by chance you have a good chow, then you are just one of the lucky ones" , still exists. Some of these remarks have even came from "breeders" and "vets". If my vet made a remark like that about about Chows or any other breed, I would very quickly change vets. Under no uncertain terms would I want someone looking after the welfare of my chows that is so impressionable. He may even think that the old way of castrating a cat was still the way to do it. You know "putting the cats head in a rubber boot" and castrating him! It was thought that the cat didn't feel anything:0

Every breed of dog has it little quirks and differences. The Chow is very aloof and independant. A trait that I love. They are very low maintance, and if your looking for a high energy dog, to romp with...well the chow just doesn't cut it.:) They are not the type of dog that will be all over strangers for attention. They have an atitude of "you leave me alone and I'll leave you alone" .Chows are lovable , funny and will love you until the end of time.

You will find nasty dogs in ANY breed. Not just the Chows. And this is mainly due to poor breeding. I have been a groomer for over 20 years and I've seen all kinds of dogs and have yet to groom a nasty chow. Thats not to say that there are none out there but the ones that gave me problems as far as temperment goes, are the Poodle , Cockerspaniels, and most small breeds. However I do not think that all Poodles and Cockerspaniels are mean.

Reputable breeders are and have been trying to eliminate the bad breeding in the Chow population. Pet shops and backyard breeders are the worst culprits for this. You will never find a good quality dog at a pet shop. If your looking for a pet quality or show quality, go to a breeder! Check them out and ask questions. Any reputable breeder will be more then willing to answer your questions. And if they don't , then find another breeder that will. Listen to people and what they have to say, but in the end, make up your own mind. Sometimes just common sence will see you through. If we all took this paticular vets word as gospil, well no one would ever buy a chow. Just stop and think for a second.. if I had a bad experience with a vet in ...lets say Newfoundland:0 .....would that mean that ALL the vets in Newfoundland are "no good"? I don't think so.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you are serious about owning a Chow, read, listen, look , ask questions, and if you are then satisfied , then purchase, from a reputable breeder.
Thank you.
